Staying motivated is key to success when it comes to anything in life, but I can definitely relate to the struggle on a Monday to go to the gym when I would much rather take a nap or the significant effort it takes to turn away from the fries in the cafeteria and choose an apple or a banana. We all struggle to stay motivated and focused, but read on for a few tips that can help lessen that struggle and make it a little easier to stick to your goals and see results in the future.
- Workout Buddy. Everything is more fun with friends, and weight training is no different. There are some days where I enjoy the time alone to de-stress that a workout provides, but on days when I do not want to get my butt out of bed, having friends to push me and to laugh with is extremely important. Tip: If you know ahead of time that you struggle to get a workout in on a particular day of the week, schedule to meet up with a friend at the gym. You are much more likely to be motivated to go if you have someone counting on you to be there. Plus, I have found that the hardest part about going to the gym is actually going; once I am there, I have never regretted it. Also, as I have mentioned before, having friends to work out with helps you feel less intimidated and more confident in what you’re doing.
2. A Great Playlist. No matter what music you like, music is a great way to stay motivated in the gym! Find yourself a playlist that pumps you up and gets you excited to work out. Spotify has a great discount for students, and tons of songs. You can create your own playlists, or you can find playlists that have already been created and follow along. I recently started following and listening to Gymshark: Whitney Simmon’s playlist because she has lots of great songs with good beats, and she updates it constantly.
3. Yummy Recipes. Whoever said eating healthy was boring, was very wrong. It can be a good idea to stick to the same sort of foods in order to create a habit of good eating, but that can also be incredibly boring! There are tons of blogs devoted to colorful, fun, healthy, and delicious recipes. One I love to look at is The Slender Student. Another helpful blog that provides training tips, as well as meal plans is Hungry Fitness.
